| Here is a little info on how the coil packs are fired. I'm sure a lot of you already know. Here is an easy way to tell if the PTU is sending voltage to the ignition coil. This is a low cost voltage sensor you can buy at Home Depot for $5. The battery is just for size comparison.
It normally has a screwdriver flat tip but I sharpened mine to a point for probing. It comes with two watch type batteries and is activated when you press the pocket clip. It has extremely high gain so if you hold it close to something with a large electric field such as a coil pack it will pick it up.
See it work in this video. For the best signal place the blade next to the back of the coil pack connector. If you sharpen the blade to a fine point you can poke the three wires going to the coil pack connector. Two of the wires will give a solid steady indication light showing constant voltage and one wire will blink very bright if the PTU is working correctly. In the video I used a rubber band to hold the clip closed. (6.25mb) [ http://www.maximusdvd.com/mytwinturbo/videos/ptuvoltagetest.mpg ] Here is some info on how the coil packs are fired.
